The rapier has been a popular weapon among duelists since the 16th century and was also widely used for civilian purposes.
The rapier is called pappenheimer due to the typical design of the vessel (parier basket).
It takes its name from the Imperial general of the Thirty Years' War, Gottfried Heinrich zu Pappenheim.
This basket rapier has a blunt and hardened carbon steel blade with a pointed end. The large basket handle is made of steel and has a velvet lining; the handle itself is wrapped with wire.
The scabbard is made of wood covered in leather and has a chamfer and a metal muzzle plate.
