Acquire Spanish Basket Rapier with Sheath
Spanish basket rapier with sheath
The rapier first appeared around 1500 and remained the favored sword of European nobility and gentry until the late 17th century. This one-handed, usually double-edged Renaissance sword with a long, slender blade and a pointed tip was designed primarily as a stabbing weapon, but could still be used quite effectively as a cutting weapon. It was used primarily by the nobility for military and civilian purposes and was usually equipped with a more or less elaborately designed basket, bell, or bow container that provided better protection for the hand, whether on the battlefield or in a duel. This bladed weapon, which spread throughout Europe in a wide variety of forms, enjoyed great popularity as a fencing, self-defense, or dueling weapon and eventually became a status symbol and an indispensable accessory in the wardrobe of every nobleman or officer.
This reconstruction of a classic Renaissance Spanish arrow-hilt rapier has a narrow, double-edged blade made of EN45 spring steel with a diamond-shaped cross-section and a pointed tip. The cutting edges are unsharpened, and the continuous blade tang is screwed into the end of the handle. The intricate and elegant hilt with lock, temples, and S-shaped guard rings is made of stainless steel, as is the pommel. The handle section consists of a wooden core with a braided steel wire wrap.
A black stitched leather case with a steel mouthpiece and cap is included.
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
