Gift Viking Sword Ulfberht
Viking sword ulfberht
Before the ulfberht sword, most swords were assembled from several pieces. Bars of soft iron were welded together with strips of steel, forged into a blade shape, and then a steel edge was welded to the sword. The ulfberht sword was a huge leap forward in both technology and design. It wasn't made from strips, but from sheets of good carbon steel with enough carbon content to make excellent swords. The sword's design was also a vast improvement. The blade tapered more towards the tip than previous blades. This meant the sword was closer to the hand and faster in both attack and recovery than previous swords.
The engravings on both sides of the blade are copied exactly from the original, so the reproduction is almost identical. The sword is made of high-carbon steel and is beautifully balanced. The handle is wooden and leather-wrapped. The sturdy crossguard is made of steel, and the pommel is shaped like a Brazil nut, which was very popular at the time, both among the Vikings and the rest of Europe.
