Acquire Viking Sword, Petersen Type L, Show Combat, Category-B, Various Lengths

Viking sword, Petersen type L, various blade lengths, without scabbard
Combat sword, Category-B

In close collaboration with fencing and martial arts instructor Volker Kunkel and his West Coast Institute, we developed this Viking sword suitable for stage combat. Unfortunately, Volker didn't live to see this small series ready for sale. He died too soon, in April 2021.
The goal was to offer a robust yet lightweight and well-balanced show sword for smaller budgets. Volker brings his many years of experience as a fencing teacher and coach, and as a market leader. The Ulfberth® team implemented these specifications with their swordsmiths and created a Viking show sword with a very good price-performance ratio.
Original pieces from the 9th/10th centuries found in Great Britain served as the model for this sword. 19th century, which were classified as Type I according to the Petersen typology for Viking swords. It has a blade made of forged spring steel, which was hardened in an oil bath and then tempered. It has a Rockwell hardness of 48-52 HRC, and the very wide groove gives it flexibility and lightness. The edges of the blade are approximately 2 to 2.5 mm thick, and the sword comes with a relatively wide, rounded tip for tournament use.
As with many surviving historical examples of this period, the pommel is a two-part construction: the three-lobed upper section is connected to the curved base by two rivets, and the full-length blade tang is firmly riveted (hammered) to the “cap.”
We offer this sword in two different blade lengths (please select the desired model from the drop-down menu: short = 64 cm / long = 74 cm). The short version is especially ideal as an entry-level sword for fencers who are not yet very strong.
Optionally available are matching leather sheaths with sword belts, item ulf-sw-11sa or ulf-sw-11sb .
