Get Viking Sword Erik The Red
Viking sword erik the red, hammer
Erik Thorvaldsson (950 – ca. 1003), known as Erik the Red, was a Norwegian Viking who is mentioned in medieval and Icelandic saga sources as the founder of the first Norse settlement in Greenland. Icelandic tradition has it that he was born in Rogaland, Norway, in the district of Jæren, as the son of Thorvald Asvaldsson, hence his patronymic name is Erik Thorvaldsson. The term "red" probably refers to the colour of his hair and the colour of his beard. Erik the Red's father had to flee Norway because of a murder. He sailed west from Norway with his family and settled at Hornstrandir in northwestern Iceland. After marrying Thjodhild, Erik moved to Haukadal, where he set up a farm. Erik later moved to the island of öxney (Iceland). popular history credits erik with the discovery of greenland. erik the red was the first permanent european settler.
