Enjoy Viking Sword from Vestre Berg (Oslo) with Scabbard, Petersen Type O, 10th Century.
Vestre Berg (Oslo) Viking sword with scabbard, Petersen type, 10th century.
This beautiful Viking sword is based on an original sword that was part of the large grave found at Vestre Berg in Løiten/Løten, Norway. According to records, the grave was discovered in 1887 during clearance work among some rocks. A special feature of the original, which dates back to the 10th century, is the blade, which was probably ritually bent into an “S” shape. It is unknown whether this ritual was intended to symbolically “kill” the sword for burial or to deter grave robbers. The sword, classified as a type or according to the Petersen typology for Viking swords, is now in the collection of the Kulturhistorisk Museum (formerly Universitetets Oldsaksamling ) in Oslo, Norway.
The replica has a broad, double-edged blade with a wide groove and unsharpened cutting edges. The handle consists of a hilt wrapped in red leather, a short guard slightly curved toward the blade, and a generous five-lobed pommel. The patterns and motifs that also adorn the original are engraved on the bronze crossguard and pommel.
This Viking sword comes with a red wood/leather scabbard with a bronze mouthpiece and hood, and a belt loop with bronze fittings.
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
