Give Haithabu's Viking Sword, 9th Century.
Viking Haithabu sword with sheath, 9th century
This beautifully detailed sword is a reconstruction of a finely crafted and remarkably well-preserved grave find from Hedeby. Dating from the 9th century, this sword is believed to have belonged to a Danish nobleman or wealthy Viking warrior. The original find can be admired in the Viking Museum at Haithabu. The Viking settlement at Haithabu, the most important Viking trading center in Jutland (near Schleswig), was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.
In terms of its design, this one-handed sword is a classic example of a Viking sword wielded by Norse warriors. It has the typical features of a traditional sword from the High Middle Ages: a short guard, a straight, double-edged blade with a wider hilt, and a distinctive, ridged pommel.
The blade of this replica is forged from heat-treated EN45 spring steel. The edges are unsharpened, and the continuous tang of the blade is riveted to the pommel. The wood-core handle is wrapped in red leather and adorned at both ends with decorative brass rings. The crossguard, approximately 14 cm long and 2 cm thick, and the generous five-lobed pommel are crafted from brass. The highly detailed, etched motifs and patterns that adorned the handle of the original artifact have been reproduced as faithfully as possible.
This early medieval one-handed sword comes with a red wooden/leather scabbard with mouthpiece, cap, and brass belt loop (maximum belt width 6 cm).
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
A Damascus steel version of this sword is also available in our shop (item no. 0116041401).
