Give Haithabu's Viking Sword, 9th Century.
Viking Haithabu sword with sheath, 9th century
This beautifully detailed sword is a finely crafted and remarkably well-preserved reconstruction of a find from a grave in Hedeby. Dating back to the 9th century, this sword is believed to have belonged to either a Danish nobleman or a wealthy Viking warrior. The original find can be admired at the Viking Museum in Haithabu. The Viking settlement of Haithabu, the most important Viking trading centre in Jutland (near Schleswig), was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.
In terms of its design, this one-handed sword is a classic example of a Viking sword wielded by Norse warriors. It has the typical features of a traditional sword of the High Middle Ages: a short guard, a straight double-edged blade with a wider butt and a distinctive pommel with several ridges.
The blade of this replica is forged from heat-treated EN45 spring steel. The edges are not sharpened and the continuous tang of the blade is riveted to the pommel. The wooden-core handle is wrapped with red leather and adorned at both ends with decorative brass rings. The crossguard, approximately 14 cm long and 2 cm thick, and the generous five-lobed pommel are made of brass. The highly detailed, engraved motifs and patterns that adorned the handle of the original artifact were reproduced as faithfully as possible.
This one-handed sword from the High Middle Ages comes with a red wooden/leather scabbard with brass mouthpiece, cap and belt loop (maximum belt width 6 cm).
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
A Damascus steel version of this sword is also available in our shop (item no. 0116041401).
