Treat yourself to a Tinker Early Viking Sword with Combat Blade, Sk-a

Early Viking tinker sword with combat blade

Michael 'Tinker' Pearce has designed a range of Hanwei swords made from 5160 steel that combine authenticity, functionality and performance.

To meet the varying demands of Western martial artists, there is both a sharp and a dull version of each of the seven swords, all of which offer excellent handling. Careful heat treatment of the 5160 steel (preferred by Tinker) by hot-dip hardening (marquenching) results in an excellent combination of strength and flexibility with a Rockwell hardness of 50-52 HRC. This allows for increased edge strength on sharp blades, while preventing burr formation on dull models and ensuring safety-related tip flexibility.

Not being a direct copy of a specific sword, this Viking sword was based on historical 9th century models modeled after it. Especially in Trondheim, Norway, swords were found that showed a preference for circular depressions in the decoration of the hilts. Attachment points and an elegant chapeau give the scabbard an attractive look. The Viking swords differ from the other swords in the Tinker series in that the tang riveting and the blunt version's blade are intended more for fighting than for training. Replacement blades are still available separately for experienced fencers to replace riveted blades, as is the case with all other swords in this series. The handling of both versions of this sword (with a sharp or blunt blade) is almost identical.
