Shaolin Dharma Sword
Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk who lived in the 5th/6th centuries, is revered for his introduction of Zen to China through the Shaolin Monastery, which became the birthplace of Zen in China. He was born into a noble Indian family, later becoming a monk, traveled throughout Southeast Asia, and possibly arrived in China in the early 5th century. He was the 28th patriarch of Buddhism, in a lineage tracing back to the Buddha himself.
Bodhidharma's association with Buddhism is legendary, and many famous accounts attribute his name to the time he introduced the Shaolin to a series of exercises that became their world-famous martial arts. The lotus flower, one of the emblems of the Shaolin Temple, is representative of the spirit of Zen, in which the dharma achieves a meditative state, capable of separating all external influences from the mind and achieving a clear vision of reality.
The elegant Shaolin Dharma sword represents the spirit of Bodhidharma. The forged carbon steel blade is decorated with lotus motifs, which also adorn the intricate fittings on the sword's scabbard and handle. The sword's handle and scabbard are traditionally made of bamboo.
