Feast your eyes on the Saxon Sword, 9th Century.
Saxon sword, 9th century
With this reconstruction of a 9th-century Saxon sword, the smiths at Cas Hanwei have once again surpassed themselves. They used techniques already used by Saxons and Vikings to create a stunning blade with a damascened core and edges made of high-quality carbon steel. Using this technique, the ancient smiths were able to produce sharp, durable, and decorative blades. Thanks to Hanwei, they are now affordable, centuries later.
This beautiful sword is based on a 9th-century original found on the banks of a river in Yorkshire, England, in 1976 and is now on display at the York Museum.
