Like their famous sword, the Normans' unbridled fighting spirit and insatiable greed for land and riches undoubtedly date back to their Viking ancestors, who, under the leadership of Rollo, liberated their future home of Normandy from the northwestern French grasp of Charles the Simple in 911 AD (Peace Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte). However, the Normans were never satisfied with their lot, and it wasn't long before they took up their broad, double-edged swords again and crossed the English Channel to conquer Great Britain; a campaign that culminated in the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD.

Cold Steel® now offers a battle-ready version of these famous swords. Like the carefully vetted originals, this sword also features a long, wide blade with razor-sharp edges. To keep weight to a minimum and ensure comfortable one-handed use, Cold Steel® has designed the center of the blade with a unique, wide, weight-saving groove, which also provides greater balance and gives the blade the strength it needs to withstand heavy blows.

With its downward-curved crossguard with chisel-shaped ends, leather-wrapped wooden handle, and tricorn pommel, the hilt of this Norman cold steel® sword is also reminiscent of several surviving original pieces. The shape of the pommel was deliberately chosen: this pommel leaves more room for the hand, forms a good counterweight to the blade, and can be used as a striking weapon.

A leather-covered wooden case with steel fittings is included.
