Give A Medieval One-Handed Sword With A Disc Pommel, Steel
Medieval one-handed sword made of steel
Medieval one-handed swords, so-called knightly swords, were very popular among sword-wielding nobility in the High and Late Middle Ages. They were developed from spathas in the 10th century, although the Viking broadsword can be seen as a transitional form. The crossguard of the medieval one-handed sword is longer than that of early medieval examples, while the blade is somewhat narrower and more pointed.
The straight-bladed one-handed swords of the High and Late Middle Ages are also colloquially called knight's swords. This is largely due to the fact that medieval knights were often depicted with a one-handed sword and a shield or buckler. Examples of this can be found in the Codex Manesse or in the Sachsenspiegel .
The medieval one-handed sword was the knight's close combat weapon, and depending on its characteristics could be used as either a slashing or stabbing weapon. Until the mid-14th century, one-handed swords were broader and had a sharper blade, as they were used more as a slashing weapon against light mail armor. When plate armor came into use, one-handed swords became narrower towards the point (the tip of the sword) and were used as stabbing weapons. One-handed swords were also used on horseback if the polearm was broken during battle, lost, or otherwise became unwieldy in the heat of battle.
The carbon steel blade of the beautiful sword offered here is forged all the way to the pommel and is double-threaded at the end of the handle. The handle has a sewn-on leather wrap and is fitted with a classic disc pommel. Our medieval one-handed sword is characterised by the straight guard, which gives the sword the typical cross shape. The blade is not sharpened.
The sword comes without a scabbard. A matching scabbard can be purchased separately in our shop (item no. 0101106401).
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
