Enjoy Italian Longsword with Scabbard - Man-at-Arms Series
Italian cold steel® man at arms (maa) long sword with scabbard
This is the man at arms ( maa ) version of the original cold steel® Italian longsword (item no. cst-88its).
The medieval man at arms was a brave and loyal fighter full of martial heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often entering the action first and, although not a knight, fighting and training alongside them as a brother-in-arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated wandering soldiers, Cold Steel® has created the Man at Arms weapons collection. Compared to Cold Steel®'s premium versions, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual shiny blades and silver-polished steel elements, but the MAA series products come close to matching the others in quality and performance. The fully sharpened, blued blades are characterized by their unmistakable metallic appearance, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of Cold Steel®'s finest blades, but at a significantly lower price. If you've always wanted a Cold Steel® blade but never been able to afford it, then this collection is for you.
The era of the longsword spanned almost three centuries (from approximately 1350 to 1650), and no doubt because it did such an excellent job! This sword had a characteristic cross-shaped hilt, a long, double-edged blade, and was equally suited to facing lightly and heavily armored opponents. Its particularly long blade provided the reach and leverage needed for powerful stabbing and slashing, while its long crossguard and heavy pommel could be used as striking weapons and also to hook and unbalance the opponent or control their weapon. When piercing heavy plate armor was necessary, sword strikes were almost ineffective and were often omitted in favor of the so-called half-sword technique : in this type of combat, the swordsman held the sword handle with one hand and gripped the blade with the other in order to guide the sword point more accurately and more precisely pierce the gaps and joints of the knight's armor. This Cold Steel® reconstruction was inspired by the design of the Italian longsword. Although the blade and center of gravity are designed more for thrusting attacks, the cutting edges are also surprisingly effective. Furthermore, the simply designed, cross-shaped blade, with its long, downward-curving guard and balanced fishtail pommel, offers all the possibilities of sword fighting.
The Maa - Italian longsword comes with a leather sheath with blackened steel fittings.
1090 carbon steel
1090 carbon steel is an excellent choice for larger fixed blades. It sharpens easily and holds that edge, yet is still tough enough to withstand the most brutal stress tests. In short: a good all-purpose carbon steel that remains very durable even with heavy use.
