Enjoy Italian Longsword With Sheath - Man-at-arms Series
Italian cold steel® man at arms (maa) long sword with scabbard
This is the man at arms ( maa ) version of the original cold steel® Italian longsword (item no. cst-88its).
The medieval man at arms was a brave and loyal fighter full of martial heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often going first into action and, although not a knight, he fought and trained alongside them as a brother in arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated wandering soldiers, Cold Steel® has created the Man at Arms collection of weapons. Compared to Cold Steels® premium versions, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual shiny blades and silver-polished steel elements, but the MAA series products come close to matching the other products in quality and performance. The fully-honed, blued blades are characterized by their unmistakable metallic look, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of Cold Steel®’s finest blades, but at a significantly lower price. If you've always wanted to own a Cold Steel® blade but have never been able to afford it, then this collection is made for you.
The era of the longsword spanned nearly three centuries (from about 1350 to 1650) and no doubt because it did an excellent job! This sword had a characteristic cross-shaped hilt, a long double-edged blade and was equally suited to taking on lightly and heavily armoured opponents. Its particularly long blade provided the reach and leverage needed for powerful stabbing and slashing, while its long crossguard and heavy pommel could be used as striking weapons and also to hook and throw the opponent off balance or control his weapon. When heavy plate armour needed to be pierced, sword strikes were almost ineffective and were often skipped in favour of the so-called half-sword technique : in this type of combat, the swordsman held the sword handle with one hand and gripped the blade with the other in order to guide the sword tip more accurately and pierce more precisely the gaps and joints of the knight’s armour. This Cold Steel® reconstruction was inspired by the design of the Italian sword. although the blade and center of gravity are designed more for thrusting attacks, the edges are also surprisingly effective. furthermore, the simply designed, cross-shaped vessel, with its long, downward-curving guard and balanced fishtail pommel, offers all the possibilities of sword fighting.
The maa - Italian longsword comes with a leather sheath with blued steel fittings.
1090 carbon steel
1090 carbon steel is an excellent choice for larger fixed blades. It sharpens easily and holds that edge, but remains tough enough to withstand the most brutal stress tests. In short: a good all-purpose carbon steel that remains very durable even with heavy use.
