Enjoy Katzbalger Sword, For Light Show Combat, Category-C, With Sheath
Katzbalger sword with scabbard, 15th-16th century, for light exhibition combat, Category C
The katzbalger is a short, one-handed Renaissance battle sword. This short sword was the preferred melee weapon of the Landsknechts of the late 15th and 16th centuries. What is particularly striking is the relatively short and wide blade, the S-shaped hand guard, and the so-called fish-fin pommel. There are two possible explanations for this special name: either it derives from cat hide, which was possibly used for the handle or as a scabbard. However, the most likely origin lies in the word katzbalgen , a synonym for fighting and striking. Pikemen, archers, and crossbowmen often used katzbalgers as a last-ditch defensive weapon when the enemy had already advanced too far for long-range or polearms.
The tip of our replica is rounded, and the leading edge is 2 mm thick. Therefore, the sword is suitable for light combat training and fencing exercises, but we cannot guarantee that it will break. The blade has a total of three grooves. Both the wooden handle and the steel pommel and forged handguard are very solid.
A wood and leather sheath is included (leather color may vary slightly from item to item).
