Italian one and a half handed sword for exhibition combat, sk-b



This sword is a replica of a 15th century Italian sword. The original is now in the Museo Civico L. Mazzoli in Brescia, Italy.



Already in the late Middle Ages, sword production was divided in terms of workmanship, because the blade came from a well-known smithy in Passau in southern Germany and was assembled in northern Italy with the typical handle parts of the Italian fashion . Typologically, the sword can be classified as an Oakeshott Type XVIIIa or possibly a Type XVIa.



This battle-ready reconstruction is entirely hand-made. The slightly forward-curved crossguard and the octagonal pommel are made of forged and heat-treated cast iron. The spring steel blade, oil-hardened to approx. 48-50 HRC, runs up to the pommel and is screwed on there. The handle is leather-wrapped. The blade has a pronounced groove that measures a good third of the blade's length and gives the sword added elasticity while also being light. The tip of the blade and the cutting edges are blunt and rounded. The sword comes with a beautiful leather-wrapped wooden scabbard.
