The chinese leaf gim is considered a civilian weapon. It was more or less a knight's weapon that looked impressive yet was sturdy enough to provide good defense on the street or in the open field. cold steels® interpretation has a blade approximately 84.5 cm long made of heat-treated carbon steel. it is relatively lightweight, allowing it to be wielded with the fingers, wrist and forearm, similar to a western smallsword. it is traditionally used primarily for stabbing, but can also be used for cutting and slashing. the rosewood handle and matching scabbard complement the crossguard, pommel and other hardware cast in stainless steel to resist corrosion.
