Excalibur is the legendary sword of King Arthur, which is sometimes attributed with magical powers or associated with the legitimate sovereignty of Great Britain. Arthur, kneeling before the stone, performed this act, took the sword, carried it into the cathedral, and sacrificed it on the altar. Arthur was anointed with holy oil and, in the presence of all the barons and common people, solemnly swore to be a just king and to uphold truth and justice all the days of his life. Legend and history have blended over time, and the legend of King Arthur, the Knights of the Round Table, and the magic sword Excalibur have intertwined along the way.
