Gift of the River Witham Sword
Sword of the River Witham
The original sword was found in 1788 during earthworks on the River Witham, near Lincoln (eastern England). It probably dates from the second half of the 13th century. The blade is made of carbon steel (AISI 1566) and is sharp. The following inscription is engraved on the blade: +ndxoxchmdrchdxorvi+.
The blade's steel reaches all the way to the handle, where it's riveted to the pommel. This sword can't be called a decorative sword, as it can definitely be used for fencing. However, the blade is sharp. It's an ideal weapon for reenactors who want a sword as it once was. The sword comes with a leather-wrapped wooden scabbard.
