Enjoy King Henry V's Sword, Molinete
Sword of King Henry V, windlass
Ewart Oakeshott, a renowned English sword enthusiast, researcher and author of important books on the sword, described Henry V's sword as... one of the most beautiful medieval swords he ever owned. It is balanced like a good fishing rod.
This is a sword designed to be a top-notch weapon: simple, practical, and of high quality. The huge, thick pommel looks deceptively heavy, but is actually hollow. The projecting edges on either side were soldered to an inner iron disc. The recesses in the pommel were gilded and accented with painted red crosses to mark the King’s funeral. The sword hung over King Henry’s tomb in Westminster Abbey until it was eventually stored in a chest. In 1951 it was discovered, cleaned (by Mr. Oakeshott himself!), and added to King Henry’s other accoutrements (his helmet, shield, and saddle) in the Abbey Museum. It was obviously used frequently; the blade appears to be slightly narrowed from multiple sharpenings. The original handle is long gone, and the present wooden handle is probably a rough replacement. This sword is referred to as Type XVIII in Oakeshott’s Medieval Sword Records.
As a prince at the age of 16, Henry was nearly killed by an arrow through his face. As king, he led a small band of knights and archers to victory over a much larger French force at the Battle of Agincourt, one of the most astonishing achievements in English military history.
This Windlass Steelcrafts sword is an accurate replica of Henry V’s iconic sword. Like the original, it is a relatively short weapon designed for quick cuts and thrusts. The blade is slightly hollow. It is very well balanced and fits very well in the hand. Like the original, the pommel is hollow, has a gold lining in the recesses, and has a red enamel cross on each side (enamel was used instead of paint for durability). An exact replica of an actual battle sword once used by the King of England. A design with just enough flair to give it a touch of elegance, but certainly a pragmatic and effective cutting weapon.
Includes sheath and belt made of top quality leather.
