The medieval man at arms was a brave and loyal fighter full of martial heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often entering the action first and, although not a knight, fighting and training alongside them as a brother-in-arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated wandering soldiers, Cold Steel® has created the Man at Arms weapons collection. Compared to Cold Steel®'s premium versions, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual shiny blades and silver-polished steel elements, but the MAA series products come close to matching the others in quality and performance. The fully sharpened, blued blades are characterized by their unmistakable metallic appearance, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of Cold Steel®'s finest blades, but at a significantly lower price. If you've always wanted a Cold Steel® blade but never been able to afford it, then this collection is for you.
It would be a difficult undertaking to try to find a more versatile or powerful sword than this hand-and-a-half sword (also called a bastard sword ) offered here. For a sword of this size, it is surprisingly light (approx. 1.4 kg) and swift. Its 85 cm long blade is quite wide and can therefore cut deeply, yet remains sharp enough to effectively perform thrusting attacks. Thanks to its long hilt, the sword can be wielded with one or two hands. To balance the long blade, the end of the handle is fitted with a beautiful heel pommel , which can serve as a striking weapon in itself. Each of these hand-and-a-half swords meets the highest quality standards in terms of workmanship and materials. All blades are fully sharpened and suitable for combat.
To safely store the blade, each sword comes with a very attractive leather sheath with a lip plate and blued steel sheath.
Carbon steel 1055
The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
