Acquire an English or French Single-Edged Sword
English or French single-edged sword
This is a replica of a mid-15th-century single-edged sword. The original was excavated in France (presumably found at the site of the Battle of Castillon-la-Bataille in 1453). The single-handed sword is part of a group of more than eighty swords that were discovered at the same site and has been part of the Royal Armoury collection since 1984, object number IX.2638.
This medieval knight's sword has a single-edged, thin, and extraordinarily wide blade with a wedge-shaped cross-section and a false edge on the back of the blade.
The crossguard ends with rolled points designed to catch an opponent's sword in battle. The offset handle is level with the back of the blade, and the heeled pommel makes the short handle comfortable to hold. This medieval sword is pleasantly maneuverable and surprisingly light compared to its massive appearance.
The blade of this replica was handcrafted by a skilled blacksmith. It is made of 1080 carbon steel, hardened, and tapered distally for optimal weight distribution.
The scabbard with a wooden core is covered with leather. The tip is reinforced with a brass plate, which features artistic hollows and a decorative acorn-shaped point. At the muzzle, leather covers part of the crossguard.
A certificate of authenticity and a cleaning cloth are included.
