Turin Mauritius sword with scabbard, 13th century, combat sword, Category-B
Mauritius (Saint Maurice) is said to have been the leader of the Theban legion and was venerated as the patron saint of the army and of sword and knife smiths from the 4th century onwards.
The sword, which is preserved and venerated in Turin along with some of its bones, is said to have been the one that beheaded Saint Maurice. However, given that the sword was forged in the 13th century, almost 1,000 years after this event, this is highly unlikely.
This replica has a blade made of EN45 hardened spring steel. The cutting edges are unsharpened, and the tip is rounded. The blade has a pronounced groove, giving the sword great elasticity yet lightness. The curved crossguard and the Brazil nut-shaped pommel are made of steel. The handle is wrapped with a dark natural leather strap.
The high-quality sword scabbard is made of wood, wrapped in leather, and equipped with practical brass support rings.
