Enjoy the Sword of Turin Maurice with Scabbard, 13th Century.

Mauritius Turin Sword with Scabbard, 13th Century

Saint Maurice is said to have been the leader of the Theban Legion . The soldiers of this supposed legion of the Roman army are said to have died as Christian martyrs in the late 4th century. Maurice (Saint Maurice) has been venerated in the Catholic Church since the 4th century as the patron saint of the military, infantry, and knife and weapon makers. Since the early Middle Ages, the imperial jewels, the Imperial Sword and the Holy Lance , have been traced to Saint Maurice.

The original of our reconstruction has been shown to date from around 1200-1250, but it was nevertheless preserved and venerated as a relic of St Maurice along with some of his bones in Turin. According to legend, this is the sword with which Maurice was beheaded – which of course is not particularly likely since the sword was forged some 1000 years after his death – but speaks of the imagination of medieval historiography, strongly influenced by the Church.

This sword is exclusively handmade. The crossguard and the typical Paranus pommel are made of iron. The blade is continuous up to the pommel, where it is hand-riveted. The handle is wrapped with a wide leather strap. The blade has a pronounced groove, which gives the sword great elasticity and at the same time lightness. The edge of the blade is not sharpened.

The sword comes with a very nice wooden leather scabbard with brass rings to attach it to your sword belt.
