Ivanhoe's Sword
Ivanhoe, loved by the beautiful Rebecca, daughter of the Jew Isaac of York, defends his innocence with sword and lance against the accusations of the Grand Master of the Templars that he is possessed by the Devil and that he cast love spells on the Templar Knight Brian von Bois-Guilbert. Disinherited and banished by his father, Kedrik the Saxon, for having sworn his love to Lady Rowenta, the young nobleman Ivanhoe abandoned the Crusades with Richard the Lionheart. After his return from the Holy Land, he supported Richard in his war against Prince John. Eventually, Cedrik confesses his son's intentions to marry Lady Rowenta, and the wedding takes place at York Minster in the presence of the king. This marriage ended the fighting between the Saxons and Normans, whose enmity dated back to William the Conqueror's conquest of England.
