While cutting tests with Japanese swords have been popular for many decades, even in competitions, until recently little or no attention has been paid to exploring the cutting potential of Western swords. With the growing interest, Cold Steel® is helping this discipline flourish and now offers its own sword for cutting test tournaments.
The Cold Steels® Competition Cutting Sword is loosely based on the Arbedo sword and is designed for cutting competitions using rope, mail rolls, tatami mats, and similar "soft" materials. The thin, wide, double-edged blade, made of 1055 carbon steel, has been tempered to spring hardness, fully sharpened, and polished.
The sturdy, leather-covered wooden handle offers the ability to wield the competition cutting sword with one or two hands and ensures maximum control and leverage even for the most demanding tricks. To protect your fingers and ward off enemy swords, the sword is equipped with a steel crossguard that is as simple as it is effective. A beautiful, flared, diamond-shaped steel pommel provides a good counterbalance to the wide blade.
The scope of delivery includes a robust, durable black leather sheath with a steel bezel and muzzle plate.
Carbon steel 1055
The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
