Discover the Sword of Charles III
Sword Charles III, Marto
Charles III was King of Spain and the Spanish Antilles from 1759 to 1788. He was the son of Philip V of Spain and Isabella Farnese. As Duke of Parma and Piacenza, he conquered the kingdoms of Naples and Sicily. In 1735, he was crowned king and reigned as Charles VII of Naples and Charles V of Sicily. He married Princess Maria Amalia of Saxony. As King of Spain, Charles III attempted to save his empire from decline through far-reaching reforms. These included weakening the Church and its monasteries, promoting science and university research, facilitating trade, modernizing agriculture, and avoiding wars. He never achieved satisfactory control of finances and was forced to borrow to cover expenses. His reforms were short-lived, and Spain experienced a relapse after his death, but his legacy endures to this day.
