Aislinn knight's sword with scabbard, 15th century
This beautiful knight's sword is based on an original in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The sword received its name "aislinn," meaning vision or dream in Irish, from a previous curator. The sword, classified by Oakeshott as Type XV, dates from the 15th century. However, this date is often questioned. It is thought that it could also be a 19th-century forgery, as the sword's hilt is almost perfectly preserved, while the blade shows strong signs of unparalleled corrosion.
This replica has a double-edged blade that tapers sharply toward the tip. Approximately one-third of its length has a groove, and the cutting edges are unsharpened. The handle section consists of two black horn plates riveted to the tang of the full-length blade. The guard, curved toward the blade, and the disk pommel are made of bronze.
The sword comes with a brown wooden/leather scabbard with a black headstall and muzzle strap, and a sturdy leather belt. The strap end and belt buckle are made of brass and decorated with a dragon and lion motif on a red background.
This medieval sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
