On a trip to research traditional Chinese weapons near Shanghai, the Cold Steel® team visited a respected collector who owned an ancient Wu Jian sword, also known as a Battle Gim . Called the Wu Jian, it was a replica of the Wu Jian. The appearance and martial aura of this sword were so unique and impressive that Cold Steel® had reason enough to want to bring the client a reproduction of this weapon.



Crafted by talented blacksmiths, the Battle Gim is made from Cold Steels®, the finest Damascus steel. It features a broad, symmetrical point and a blade that is slightly wider and heavier than custom requires. Due to the resulting heavy nature, the sharp, double-edged blade is better suited for cutting and cleaving than thrusting.



The blackened iron pommel and guard frame the beautiful wooden handle and are decorated with a filigree decoration of traditional Chinese peony flowers and leaves. The same motif is repeated on the chapel, mouthpiece and matching wooden scabbard support rings.



Damascus steel

The term Damascus steel , Damascus steel or simply Damascus refers to a composite steel made from two or more different types of steel. The name derives from the Syrian city of Damascus, which is considered an ancient stronghold and the origin of Damascus steel production. Typically, a hard, high-carbon steel and a soft, low-carbon steel are joined together by repeated welding and forging. The high-carbon steel provides greater hardness, better hardenability, and increased edge retention, while the softer steel gives the blade greater elasticity and higher resistance to breaking. With this technology, which was developed in an age of poor and changing steel qualities, the positive properties of different steels can be combined. Due to the different colors with different carbon contents, stunning patterns of alternating layers are created. Due to these patterns, Damascus swords from the Middle Ages were said to have an inherent magic.
