Claymore sword, marto
A claymore is the Scottish variant of the late medieval two-handed longsword. A characteristic feature of this sword is a cross-shaped handle made of forward-sloping spikes with four-leafed ends. It was in use from the 15th to the 17th century. James I (1394–1437), King of Scotland, was crowned at Scone in 1424. After defeating the Albany clan as a child due to plots against them, he weakened the power of the feudal lords. Under his rule, Scottish laws were codified and a system of weights and measures was established. He was also a notable poet. He was killed during a conspiracy by Sir Robert Graham. For his bravery in battle and the strong hand with which he ruled his country, he was called the Lion of Scotland.
