German and Swiss soldiers, known for their strength and bravery, were the first to use this type of sword. The bastard sword soon became increasingly popular in other areas of the European continent and in the British Isles.

The name bastard is undoubtedly due to the fact that the sword was due to its format, it cannot be classified as a one- or two-handed sword. This one-and-a-half-handed sword was developed specifically for infantry and was a common weapon in the early 16th century. The cultures of northern Europe made the development of different styles of fighting with the one-and-a-half-handed sword their specialty. In this sense, the German peoples participated in an important way in the diffusion of this sword and used it widely.

At the customer's request, swordmaker Paul Chen has developed a fighting version of the original Hanwei Bastard Sword (item no. hn-sh2250).

To keep burr formation to a minimum and to provide the necessary strength to the recreation sword to ensure its use in show fights, the blade is forged from 5160 carbon steel. In addition, the transverse strength of the crossguard has been increased to give both ends a profile that offers greater safety.

Another innovation is the provision of a scabbard made entirely of leather instead of the hard scabbards usually associated with exhibitions. Combat - Hanwei swords are included. This ensures additional safety in battle, for example if a fighter falls on the scabbard of his sword. This also reduces the need for replacement. The handle sheath and scabbard of this one-and-a-half-handed sword are made of neutral-coloured leather and can therefore be individually designed to your taste.
