Alexander iii of macedonia, called alexander the great, king of macedonia, born july 21, 356 bc conqueror of the persian empire. By 327 BC, by 400 BC, he had conquered an empire stretching from Greece to Asia Minor and India. He carried out a victorious campaign of more than 20,000 miles that lasted 11 years.
