Alexander III of Macedonia, known as Alexander the Great, king of Macedonia, born on July 21, 356 BC, conqueror of the Persian Empire. Considered the supreme political figure of antiquity, a great military strategist, and creator of a work of great cultural significance, Alexander the Great is considered one of the most brilliant generals in history. Not only was he a brave military ruler who planned his campaigns with great brilliance, but from very early on, he showed great interest in the Persian Empire and its actions, as well as in the Persian invasion of Macedonia. He was part of the powerful Persian army under Darius III at the Battle of Issus in 333 BC and won a great victory. The Persian king fled eastward with all his forces, leaving the royal treasury, Phoenicia, Palestine, and Egypt in Alexander's hands without offering any resistance. Named son of the god Amun, he founded Alexandria and promoted the construction of the Lighthouse of Alexandria. By 327 BC, by 400 BC, he had conquered an empire that stretched from Greece to Asia Minor and India. He carried out a victorious campaign of more than 32,000 kilometers that lasted 11 years.
