The large and beautiful Viking shield we offer here is made of approximately 13 mm thick plywood and decorated with two ravens. The pair of birds is a representation of Odin's two messengers, Hugin and Munin (or Huginn and Muninn ), who lived in They are a recurring motif in the art of the Viking Age. In Norse mythology, ravens fly over Asgard and Midgard and return in the evening to the father of the gods (also called Hrafnáss , the raven god) to tell him everything they have seen and heard.



In the centre of the shield there is a generously sized steel protrusion, which is firmly fixed with four rivets and offers enough space even for strong Viking hands. The edge of the shield is covered with rawhide (parchment) and the back of the shield is equipped with three riveted wooden reinforcement strips. The central bar also serves as a grip and is wrapped in leather at the level of the shield hole for a comfortable grip.



Although this wooden shield is too thin for full contact, it is still a great prop for reenactment, larp, stage or TV/film and will complete your transformation into a proud Norse warrior. It is also a lovely collector's or display piece or decorative object for all lovers of the Viking age.
