Sting, the magic short sword, comes from the legendary city of gondolin and was once forged by the ancient high elves. Bilbo Baggins, Frodo's uncle and former owner of the one ring, found the sword during a journey to the troll caves of Rhûdaur and saved his life in the fight against the giant spiders in the mirkwood. Sixty years later, Bilbo passed the short sword on to his nephew Frodo. The blade of the sword glows blue when orcs are nearby.
