Samwise Gamgee (original: Samwise Gamgee), also known as Sam, was a hobbit of the Shire. As Frodo's closest and most loyal companion in the Fellowship of the Ring, he played a crucial role in protecting Frodo and the destruction of the One Ring .



His sword was one of the barrow blades that Tom Bombadil found in Barrow Heights and gave to the four hobbits when he freed them from the Burial Caves. These daggers were originally forged by the armorers of Arthedain in the mid Third Age for the war against Angmar.
