Gift Gjermundbu Helmet with Riveted Helmet, 2mm Steel

The Gjermundbu helmet with riveted breastplate, 2 mm steel
- Suitable for combat -

The Gjermundbu helmet was discovered in 1943 during excavations of a Viking Age burial mound. It was reconstructed by experts and is now on display at the Museum of National Antiquities (Oldsaksamlinga) in Oslo. The helmet dates back to 970 AD.

This is an example of a Viking helmet with goggles, which guarantees the fighter good historical protection while also providing a sufficient field of vision. The helmet, and especially its straps, also demonstrate the close relationship with the group of helmets known as the Norse comb helmets .

There are currently some replicas of the Gjermundbu helmet on the market, but only a few are as original and at the same time offer the protection as this battle-ready replica of Ulfberth. The bell of his helmet consists of two parts and is made of 2 mm thick steel and carefully welded. Four hand-forged, intersecting iron bands (called buckles) are riveted to the bell, further reinforcing the helmet. The goggles, also handmade from 2 mm thick steel, are also riveted, a face shield that reaches well below the wearer's nose. The goggles have been given the same chisel notches as the original.

The helmet has a chain link made of riveted round rings (RRR), as in the 1943 find, remains of a riveted link can also be found. The forged tip of the helmet is simply screwed on and can be easily removed, for example for safe display in combat.

The helmet is not deliberately polished to a high gloss, but has an artificially aged surface that underlines its authenticity. It has a very high-quality, riveted, adjustable padded lining, as well as a sturdy leather chin strap and a brass buckle.

This excellent helmet reconstruction is a tangible piece of history that is equally interesting and affordable for both the collector and the Viking Age reenactor.

This helmet model is available in sizes S, M, and L.
