Acquire Gothic Floating Discs, 15th Century, Pair
Gothic floating discs, 15th century, 1.2 mm steel, pair
High Gothic floating discs (round discs for plate armour, besagews or besagues in English) based on a historical model from Germany dating from 1472 AD
The discs are made of steel that is about 1.2 mm thick. They are equipped with a leather strap on the back and can therefore be attached to plate armour or chain mail. The front is decorated with forged blades typical of the time and has a pointed tip, because at that time the discs themselves could also be used as weapons.
The increasing effectiveness of offensive weapons increased the need for protection. In this way, attempts were made to close the vulnerable spaces between the armour plates as best as possible. The floating discs of Gothic armour were decorative, but were mainly used to protect the armpits and upper arms from strong blows and/or blows.
