Gift Disc Dagger, 15th Century, with Leather Sheath.
Disc dagger, 15th century, with leather sheath
The name disc dagger refers to the round, plate-like guard and disc-shaped pommel of this late medieval melee weapon. It was often used in conjunction with a fist shield, the buckler . The mostly narrow, but pointed and strong blades were ideal for piercing chain mail and also plate armour.
This highly authentic replica of a 15th century discus dagger from Primus Arms is based on an original now on display at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, England.
The dagger has a massive wooden base, a handle with steel fittings and a very sturdy cowhide sheath with a sewn-in belt loop. The blade is not sharpened.
