Gift of a Disc Dagger, Suitable for Combat Performance, 14th Century.
Dagger with disc pommel
Disc daggers came into fashion in the 14th century and enjoyed great popularity among many population groups. They were used by farmers and merchants, as well as by mercenaries and knights. They could be used as both a useful tool and an (auxiliary) weapon. Rondel daggers were typically worn on the hip.
The following image comes from Thalhoffer's fechtbuch (1467) and shows how rondel daggers were used in hand-to-hand combat.
The blade has a length of approx. 21 cm long. Thanks to its rounded tip and blunt edge, this dagger is suitable for show combat. The dagger has a hand-carved wooden handle.
