Gift Drinking Horn with Stand - Valknut
Drinking horn with stand
Valknut
The drinking horn, usually made from cattle or goat horn, was a popular drinking vessel in many cultures and eras and was particularly important in ceremonies. It remained in use until the early modern period, especially in the Germanic areas of Europe. It was especially popular in Scandinavia during the early Middle Ages. The drinking horn is mentioned in both the Prose Edda and the Song Edda. Although Viking Age horn fragments are rarely found in archaeological excavations, the number of surviving metal drinking horn fittings suggests that their use was far more widespread than the finds of actual horns suggest.
The drinking horn offered here is handmade from cattle horn, polished, and decorated with an engraved Valknut symbol surrounded by a sequence of runes. The Valknut, a symbol consisting of three intertwined triangles, appears on various archaeological finds attributed to the Germanic peoples. Although to this day one can only speculate about its true meaning, some experts tend to assume a connection with Odin, the father of the gods in Norse mythology (hence the alternative German name Wotan's knot ). The Valknut has now found its place in modern culture and adorns many pieces of jewelry, talismans, and decorative objects. It is particularly popular among followers of Germanic Neopaganism (e.g., among followers of Ásatrú ).
Whether in a modern home or recreating a medieval or Viking setting, this rustic and highly decorative container will be a real eye-catcher on any dining table.
For hygienic reasons, the inside of the horn is painted food-safe, so you can enjoy your favorite beer (or your favorite honey wine or mead) to the fullest.
The scope of delivery includes a practical, easy-to-carry drinking horn stand made of hand-forged steel and featuring a simple principle: when you insert the drinking horn through the opening, the stand legs and the horn tip form a stable tripod. This means you can always store the drinking horn safely.
A great gift idea for today's Viking or Pagan!
