Enjoy the Drinking Horn with Stand - Mjölnir, Thor's Hammer

Drinking horn with stand

Mjölnir, Thor's hammer

The drinking horn, usually made from cattle or goat horn, was a popular drinking vessel in many cultures and eras and was particularly important in ceremonies. It remained in use until the early modern period, especially in the Germanic areas of Europe. It was especially popular in Scandinavia during the early Middle Ages. The drinking horn is mentioned in both the Prose Edda and the Song Edda. Although fragments of Viking Age horns are rarely found in archaeological excavations, the number of surviving metal drinking horn fittings suggests that their use was much more widespread than the finds of actual horns suggest.

The drinking horn offered here is handmade from cattle horn, polished, and decorated with an engraved Mjölnir motif. Mjölnir (= the Malmer ) is the mighty hammer of the thunder god Thor, considered the second most important Norse deity after his father Odin. In Germanic mythology, the dwarf Brokk forged Mjölnir, which could be thrown without ever missing its target. With the hammer, Thor successfully battles the giants who always threaten the Vanir and Aesir bloodlines. Today, Thor's hammer is a popular motif for jewelry, talismans, and decorative items, and is also an expression of paganism in a Christian setting.

Whether in a modern home or recreating a medieval or Viking setting, this rustic and highly decorative container will be a real eye-catcher on any dining table.

For hygienic reasons, the inside of the horn is painted food-safe, so you can enjoy your favorite beer (or your favorite honey wine or mead) to the fullest.

The scope of delivery includes a practical, easy-to-carry drinking horn stand made of hand-forged steel and featuring a simple principle: when you insert the drinking horn through the opening, the stand legs and the horn tip form a stable tripod. This means you can always store the drinking horn safely.

A great gift idea for today's Viking!
