The term bishop's collar refers to a collar made of chain mail that covers the neck, shoulders, upper chest, and back. It was particularly popular among mercenaries in the 15th and 16th centuries and is woven similarly to a chain mail hood. The name bishop's collar comes from its shape: the bishop's collar was cut very wide, making it very similar to chain mail.
