This is the man at arms ( maa ) version of the original cold steel® big knife (item #cst-88gms).

The medieval man at arms was a brave and loyal fighter full of martial heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often entering the action first and, although not a knight, fighting and training alongside them as a brother-in-arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated wandering soldiers, Cold Steel® has created the Man at Arms collection of weapons. Compared to the premium Cold Steel® versions, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual shiny blades and silver-polished steel elements, but they do. The quality and performance of the products are similar to those of the other MAA series. The fully sharpened, blued blades are characterized by their unmistakable metallic appearance, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms collection offers a selection of some of the finest Cold Steel® blades, but at a significantly lower price. Known in German lands as the great knife , this sword was used in ancient times throughout central and northern Europe by junkers and farmers to protect homes and hearths from brigands, murderers, bandits, and other evil figures. To protect one's reputation. Thanks to its broad, stately blade and generously designed handle, it could be wielded with one or two hands. This even made it possible to slice through mail armor or cut a man in half with a single blow. This version of this simple and elegant, yet extremely powerful weapon features a razor-sharp blade hand-forged from 1055 carbon steel. The crossguard and majestic pommel are made of blued steel. The wooden handle scales are riveted to the tang, which is forged all the way to the pommel.

A beautiful and sturdy leather sheath ensures comfort and safety. Matching the crossguard and pommel, the scabbard is reinforced with a blackened steel buttstock and mouthpiece.

Carbon steel 1055

The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
