This is the man at arms ( maa ) version of the original cold steel® large knife (item #cst-88gms).



The medieval man at arms was a brave and loyal fighter full of martial heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. He was a veteran of countless battles, often going first into action and although not a knight, he fought and trained alongside them as a brother in arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated wandering soldiers, Cold Steel® has created the Man at Arms Weapon Collection. Compared to the premium versions of Cold Steel®, these combat-ready weapons lack the usual shiny blades and silver-polished steel elements, but do. The quality and performance of the products are the same as the other MAA series products. The fully-sharpened, blued blades are characterized by their unmistakable metallic look, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty. The Man at Arms Collection offers a selection of some of the finest Cold Steel® blades, but at a significantly lower price. Known in German lands as the big knife , this sword was used in ancient times throughout central and northern Europe by junkers and farmers to protect homes and households from highwaymen, murderers, bandits and other evil figures. To protect one's reputation. Thanks to its broad, stately blade and generously designed handle, it could be wielded with one or two hands. This made it even possible to cut through mail armor or slice a man in half with a single blow. This version of this simple and elegant, yet extremely powerful weapon features a razor-sharp blade hand-forged from 1055 carbon steel. The crossguard and stately pommel are of blued steel. The scales on the wooden handle are riveted to the tang, which is forged all the way to the pommel.



A handsome and sturdy leather sheath ensures comfort and safety. Matching the crossguard and pommel, the scabbard is reinforced with a burnished steel bolster and muzzle.



1055 carbon steel

The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free of the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that need to have a high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
