The Safari from Swedish manufacturer Casström is a small but powerful knife. It was designed by Alan Wood, a renowned English custom knife maker known for his handcrafted hunting and stalking knives. Alan has been a professional knife maker since 1985 and has become Britain’s most imitated craftsman for his designs that are both practical and visually appealing. He is also known for his collaboration with survival expert Ray Mears.

This compact full-tang hunting knife has an approx. 6 cm long blade made of Swedish 12c27 stainless steel (59 hrc) with a hollow grind and a so-called tapered tang (the continuous tang). The tang tapers towards the end of the handle. Together, the special shape of the tang and the handle result in a very well-balanced knife with a comfortable grip. The black g10 (fibreglass composite) handle is durable, water-resistant and virtually care-free.

The knife is delivered with a sturdy vegetable tanned leather sheath in cognac brown. The sheath has a belt loop and a drainage hole.

The combination of well thought-out design and selected materials results in a beautiful and very durable piece of equipment, which is ideal as a skinner for small game or as a small belt knife for safari hunters.

Steel information: Sandvik 12C27 is a very popular stainless steel in Scandinavian knife production. Its composition results in a great combination of excellent properties in terms of edge retention (stability, sharpness and razor-sharpness), hardness and corrosion resistance. Blades made of this steel can be easily re-sharpened and at the same time have good edge resistance in terms of chipping, nicks and folded edges (so-called edge folding or edge rolling ).
