Contact Desert Fixed Knife, Extrema Ratio
Extrema ratio developed the first knife of a new production line called contact.
It has a blade with a spear-shaped profile, flat grinding, and diamond geometry. It has a lower guard to protect the hand from accidental cuts, an upper jumping for improved grip, a concave depression along the entire length of the blade, and a generously thick blade (6.30 mm). All these details make the Contact the older brother of the now famous Requiem, which has been revised in its proportions and some technical features. The first in a new line of utility knives.
The blade is made of Böhler N690 steel with a hardness of 58 HRC and a chemically burnished coating for the black version. All other colors in production have a stonewashed blade finish. The handle is still made of forprene. It is no longer secured with side screws, but rather thanks to the truncated cone-shaped stainless steel shaft, which is screwed into the base and fits into a special seat that makes it solid. This way, the knife remains well balanced. The sheath is minimalist; it cuts through most fabric; it has a retention system reminiscent of the style of the model it was inspired by.
The main housing is injection-molded from shock-resistant nylon. The secondary retention system can be deployed for ambidextrous users. The blade slides into the sheath thanks to its cone shape, which promotes quick insertion and extraction. To remove the blade, all you need to do is press the pressure lever, which releases the lock that holds the blade securely in the sheath. A system is installed in the horizontal slots of the sheath to secure the blade to prevent rattling noises when stored inside. The back of the nylon sheath is MOLLE compatible.
The fabric insert is reduced to a minimum and features the classic two-button safety strap with a belt loop and a rubber-reinforced thigh guard to prevent rotation. Extrema Ratio has opted for this new line by minimizing the knife's thickness and size, yet without skimping on structural strength and safety accessories.
