Swedish Forest Fixed Blade Knife with Black Micarta Handle, Casström

This robust full tang knife is for a wide range of uses in hunting, fishing and for classic bushcraft tasks in the forest or designed outdoors. It is extremely robust and equally ideal for skinning game, filleting fish or woodworking. The blade is approximately 10cm long and made from approximately 3.5mm thick Sandvik 14C28N, a Swedish stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 58-59 HRC, developed especially for knives. It is razor-sharp, completely flat and has a satin finish. The combination of steel and grinding results in a knife that cuts effortlessly, performs excellently at all kinds of different tasks and has good edge retention, yet can still be easily re-sharpened. Due to the reduced angle and thinness behind the cutting edge, the type of sharpening selected here is not suitable for so-called "batoning" or "leveraging", but is instead designed for efficient cutting.

The handle is made of black micarta (a composite of linen and epoxy resin) and is therefore insensitive to moisture, resistant to cracks and impacts. Brown coatings have been installed between the handle scales and the steel to increase the life of the knife.

The knife is delivered with a durable black sheath made of 3mm thick vegetable tanned leather. The sheath has an extra wide belt loop, a draw hole and an eyelet to accommodate a leg strap.

Steel information: 14C28N is the latest development of Sandvik’s renowned knife steel collection. Its optimized composition results in a unique combination of excellent properties in terms of edge retention (stability, sharpness and razor-sharpness), hardness and corrosion resistance. Because this steel can be heat treated, even better wear resistance can be achieved compared to previous steel grades without affecting the microstructure. The blade is therefore relatively easy to sharpen, but at the same time has excellent edge resistance in case of chips, nicks and bent edges (so-called edge rolling ).
