Cotehardie Ava Short Sleeve Medieval Dress Green GRÖßE S
Give yourself Cotehardie Ava Short Sleeve Medieval Dress, Green
Medieval dress / cotehardie ava with laces, short sleeves, green
This long medieval dress made of sturdy cotton fabric ( canvas ) has a fitted cut. In the skirt part, so-called geren (fabric wedges) are used, which create a generous hem width. In the middle of the front there is a strong cotton ribbon, so that the women's dress can be individually adapted to the body. Thanks to the snap-on tips at both ends, the ribbon can easily be threaded through the embroidered eyelets. To keep the dress as authentic as possible, laces were deliberately used here, although this takes much longer to put on than a zipper.
The cut of the dress is based on medieval representations from the 13th to 15th centuries. Whereas previously women's clothing was rather loose and concealed the curves of the body, clothing now increasingly clung to the body. The cotehardie (German for "roughly cotte à couture "), which originally emerged in France from the loose cotte , probably owes its name to this body-hugging cut.
Laces or buttons down the centre front are typical of a cotehardie. These only appeared at this time and eventually made a close fit possible. The ever-widening neckline was also characteristic of these dresses and was very popular with women in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The cotehardie was usually combined with a slip dress, a veil and a narrow belt. Pinned sleeves, which were fastened to the sleeve hem with a pin, were also often worn with a short-sleeved cotehardie.
Depictions of a cotehardie from that period can be found, for example, on the June calendar page of the Book of Hours of the Duke of Berry, a French illuminated manuscript (original title: Les très riches heures du duc de berry), or in Robinet Testard's illustrated Book of Simple Medicine (Virgin and Unicorn), both from the 15th century.
