Haubergeon means that it is a half to short-sleeved shirt is a chain mail that reaches just to the thigh.

The RM chain mail is made of rings with a diameter of just 6 mm. According to the original patterns, it consists of a row of riveted rings (round rivet heads) and a row of perforated rings. Due to the extremely small diameter of the rings, these chain mails could be manufactured then and now from steel with a material thickness of just 1 mm without losing their strength. This results in a weight reduction of approximately 30–35%.
We abbreviate this type of braid as rm ( Roman maille ) because it was already very popular among the Celts and Romans (hamata). This ring armor chainmail was in use throughout the Late Middle Ages.
