FWM chain necklace, flat ring with wedge-shaped rivets, 8 mm diameter, untreated

This type of chain collar (English standards ) was used in the late Middle Ages and was mainly intended for sewn or nested clothing (gambeson).

The fwm braid type is a variant of the European flat ring braid.

One row consists of flat rings riveted in a wedge shape, the second row consists of stamped rings of the same size. This method saved a lot of work in the Middle Ages and also in ancient times, since only every second ring had to be riveted. The braiding is 4 in 1.
Riveting using wedge rivets (triangular rivets) did not appear until the late Middle Ages. The braid types frw and fwm are therefore only suitable for late medieval depictions.
