The corners are decorated with images of the dwarves Norðri , Suðri , Austri and Vestri , who lived in Norse mythology (Song Edda and Prose Edda) and represent the four cardinal points or wind directions. Together, the four beings support the sky that the gods created from Ymir’s skull: Nordri in the north, Sudri in the south, Austri in the east and Westri in the west.
