Historical context

Chainmail caps were very famous in medieval warfare from the

12th-14th centuries

Used by both infantry and knights. By this time, riveted mail had spread throughout Europe, prized for its durability and ability to absorb shock. Coifs were often worn in combination with helmets such as the

nasal helmet, great helmet or bascinet

providing a versatile and modular defense system.

As armor evolved, coifs remained a vital element of transitional outfits, bridging the gap between padded armor and the early use of plate armor.
